TEXT: Exodus 33:12-23*
MEMORY VERSE:**And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud [Exodus 16:10].
*MESSAGE:**Any study of God’s glory would be incomplete without a look at what the term glory actually means. Yesterday, we did a brief touch on how Moses craved for God’s glory; How John the beloved saw the reality of it, and how this same glory works for me. Though setting forth a precise definition of the word glory however isn’t an easy task. Like many other theological concepts, God’s glory is a concept that we have an awareness of without necessarily being able to describe it in all its fullness. But when we think of glory of God, the image of brilliant light, fire often flash to our minds. This imagination of our mind isn’t far from similar method of the appearance of glory of God. See Exod.19:11-20; 24:13-17; John 1:7-14 and Rev.21:23 on how they all interrelated the Light of God with the Glory of God. Scripture often describes the glory of God in terms of a light that shines brighter than anything we can experience here on earth- John 1:4-5. To actually understand what the term glory means, let’s look at the conversation between God and Moses in today’s scripture. From the first verse, God spelt out a journey for His Moses led people and promised to escort them with His angel. Probably, having a little knowledge of the looming dangers ahead, or maybe not having total trust in the angel sent to accompany him, the man Moses engaged God in another conversation to furtherly know the personality that will go with him. Then, God replied, “my presence shall go with thee and will give thee rest.” Infact in each of the verses in the chapter, after verse 15th where Moses demanded for God’s presence, you can see that God began to speak of manifestations of Himself to them in various terminologies. He used different terms in verse 19th. In 22nd verse, He said “..while my glory passeth by.” Other versions call glory presence. So, anytime you hear someone mention the glory of God, it means the presence of God. Given report of the appearance of the personality of God, today’s memory scripture says “…behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud”. And Exodus 24:16 also says ‘while the glory of God clouded mount Sinai, a voice call came out to Moses from the glory’. Certainly, that’s a call from God’s presence. Glory in Hebrew language is called ‘kabod’. While is called ‘doxa’ in Greek. Meaning “weight” “heaviness” or “presence”. So, glory of God upon a man or in a place means the heaviness or weightiness [awesomeness] of the presence of Jehovah. Sometimes ago, myself and some of my friends, who are also men of God went to Daddy Adeboye’s mountain [Mount Carmel] at Ifewara, Osun state Nigeria to seek God’s face. From about 500 meters away while approaching the mountain, we began to feel, and were be shaken by the outflowing of the glory of God from that mountain. Glory of God on a place, on a man can be sensed. God’s Shekinah glory can bring a shaken that can shake away the unwanted, and bring in the wanted. This is why you need to settle with God and begin to please Him, in order for you also to begin to sulk from the milk of His glory as myself, and other God’s glory carriers are sucking- Isaiah 66:11. Begin to enjoy His glory!
1. Thank You glorious God.
